How To Effectively Promote Yourself Professionally

Author: John Parks

People who make their living by doing freelancing work - regardless of the type - have a lot of special things they need to take into consideration that people who hold "traditional" jobs do not have to. In addition to generally having to calculate and pay their own taxes, freelancers have the unenviable task of needing to generate enough business to keep them afloat professionally. Although some freelancers become complacent when they have built up a large enough roster of clients, most of them continually work to get new sources of income and to expand their skills. If you are a freelancer, then you probably feet into the latter category and would like to find new ways to promote your skills.

How does one go about promoting their freelancing skills for maximum effect? Rule number one lies in the work that you are currently doing. For all assignments - big and small - always do the most professional, impeccable work possible. Treat low paying gigs with the same level of professionalism as you do high paying ones. You never know when a client who tends to give you piddling assignments will suddenly have a use for more important work - and will he or she think of the mediocre freelancer for such a job? Absolutely not; they will think of the person who consistently hands in excellent results.

Besides always being conscientious about quality in all of the work you do, there are a number of other basic ways to promote your freelancing skills. Getting word out there about your abilities is an obvious one. This can be done through traditional advertising methods, although the Internet is changing a lot of that. Social networking websites are very efficient ways of spreading the word; for each satisfied customer, ask them kindly to mention you to others in need of freelancers. If even one or two satisfied clients send out "tweets" about you on Twitter - by linking to your professional website or your LinkedIn profile - you have already widened your scope considerably.

That brings us to the next point: technology. More than ever before in history, it is essential to be comfortable and savvy in regards to using a computer and the Internet. Being familiar with popular trends online is incredibly important to all freelancers - not just those who work in a computer related field. Freelancers from all sorts of backgrounds need to not only have a presence on the web, but also be active on it on a daily basis. Forming relationships on popular networking sites is a free, easy way of doing this; finding niche blogs revolving around industry related topics is another good place to hang around online.

Always be willing to provide free samples of what you do to interested prospective clients. Charging a fee for a glance at your style is not going to win you any new business. This falls under the general category of being flexible overall; do not set any rules in stone, but always be willing to try new ways of doing things to please individual clients. By doing some or all of these things, you can effectively promote your freelancing skills.

Swine Flu

Forget avian influenza, it is swine flu that could ravage the world as Mexicans are warned not to shake hands in church and have been told to keep at least six feet of separation between each other, and to wear protective masks. Large public gatherings, such as sporting events and concerts, have been banned and schools closed.

As I’ve discussed previously on Sciencebase, there are countless latent diseases in hosts as rodents, birds, and cattle lying ready and willing to make the species leap to humans and decimate our populations. Whereas for the last ten years or so bird flu has been the focus of much research it was always more likely that a potentially lethal strain of virus would emerge from another species and not necessarily in Asia.

Now, swine flu is on the rise in Mexico and already taking the first inroads into the USA just across the border. It’s already killed more than 80 people and made hundreds ill. While some observers are suggesting serious caution others are advising that there is no reason for real concern yet. We are not quite at the danger levels of the worldwide SARS epidemic.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the Mexican/US swine flu outbreak as a “public health emergency of international concern”.

What is swine flu?

Swine flu is a type A influenza virus present in pigs. Human infection is usually uncommon except among people who work and live closely with pigs.

What is unusual about the present strain?

The new strain is a hybrid of swine, human and avian flu viruses and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says it can spread from human to human but the level of virulence is not yet clear.

What are the symptoms?

Symptoms are similar to regular human flu: fever and chills, a cough, sore throat, aching limbs, headaches, and general malaise. However, there are reports of swine flu also causing diarrhoea and vomiting. Pneumonia and respiratory failure can occur leading to death as also happens in regular human flu, which kills thousands of people every year.

Are there warning signs in children?

Children having trouble breathing, being averse to drinking, lethargy not waking up or not interacting, being so irritable that the child does not want to beheld, flu-like symptoms improve but then return with fever and worse cough, fever with a rash.

Are there any drugs to treat swine flu?

Oseltamivir (Tamiflu) and zanamivir (Relenza) are the possible pharmaceutical frontline defence and are proving effective in treating patients diagnosed early enough. There is no vaccine.

Has the disease spread to the USA?

Cases in California, Texas, and Kansas, have already been confirmed and tests are being carried out on students at a school in New York.

How can we prevent the spread of swine flu?

People at risk should cover their mouth when they cough. They should regularly wash their hands with an alcohol-based cleaner and and avoid close contact with the sick. Patients with the disease should stay at home. There is no need to avoid eating pork.

Will there be a global flu epidemic?

“We do not know whether this swine flu virus or some other influenza virus will lead to the next pandemic,” says, Richard Besser, acting director of the CDC, “However, scientists around the world continue to monitor the virus and take its threat seriously.”

A New Theory of Socioeconomics

A New Theory of Socio-economics

by Robert DePaolo

While the current economic crisis is daunting it is not surprising. Whether you are the sole proprietor of a hardward store or the president of General Motors you will know that recessions happen every seven or eight years. They happen in all societies. They happen regardless of which political party is in office. They happen whether the economic emphasis is on Adam Smth (conservative) economics or Keynesian (liberal) economics.

In the U.S. they have occurred under Presidents Hoover, Roosevelt, Johnson, Nixon, Carter, Regan, Bush I and now Bush II. If one examines the financial history of this country it becomes clear that there is no direct correlation between economic philosophy and economic stability. Although liberal and conservative theorists tend to portray themselves as financial saviors during times of financial crisis - and often succeed - it usually turns out that their success is only temporary. Most of the ideas purveyed by Marx and Engles in Das Capital are foolish, but one that has stood the test of time is the notion that a capitalist system will tend to enter into a recession every decade or so.

A new administration is coming into power, and despite a "move to the center" soon-to-be president Obama will have to eventually settle in on an approach; one that differs substantially from that of his predecessor. Otherwise, aside from appearing disingenuous, he will have propagated the same policies that ostensibly led to the current crisis. In effect he has no choice other than to wax Keynesian.

He might well succeed. For example one could argue the wealth has become skewed in one direction over the past decade, leading to less disposable income for the lower middle class. The combination of less income and Smith's central contention that "man is an acquiistive, material creature" would naturally lead to consumers spending beyond their means. In that context, the current situation could aptly be called a credit-fueled crisis. The homeowners who could not pay their mortgages through Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac crashed. So did the automobile manufacturers, the lending corporations and the banks. All believed in the myth of endless prosperity; the notion that if one hangs in there long enough, the bills will somehow get paid. Such a belief is pandemic among young adults in particular, who grew up in a flimsy, self indulgent culture where using one credit card to pay off another...then another to pay of that one, was not only acceptable but de rigeur.

With that in mind, it might be time to create a new socioeconomic theory that can provide long term stability. One that is regulated instrinsically, that is, by virtue of its operative mechanisms. Before discsussing this idea a few items ned to be considered.

It was implied above that human behavior is what drives an economy. Socialism fails because it disregards completely the need for individuation in human development. A free market economy also rises and falls in accord with human nature. Smith was partially correct - indeed he was amazingly prescient about human nature for a pre-Freudian thinker. Man is material and acquisitive. Even the Neanderthals and early humans made, bought and traded amulets, ornaments and other products amongst each other. But there's more to us than that. We are materialistic for specific reasons. One has to do with an ancient phenomenon that precedes not only publication of the Wealth of Nations but the evolution of homo sapiens. It is the primate hierarchy, and it is founded on the idea that social status leads to enhanced mating opportunities as well as power and influence within the group.

That's where Smith fell short. His assumption was that companies competing in a free market environment would be forced to lower prices and produce better products in order to sell more goods. He also presumed that companies that did not do so would not, and should not survive. Underlying his theory was the premise that consumers would naturally be inclined to buy cheaper products or products of higher quality. His vision was of a consumer-regulated marketplace and like all aspects of politics in a democratic society, it depended - absolutely depended - on the common sense of the people.

With the advent of mass communication and advances in the advertising field, that notion has been largely dispelled - so too has Smithonian economic theory. Turns out poor people in the ghetto will find a way to purchase $90 basketball shoes for their kids, even if they can't pay the rent that month, even if there is no difference in quality or durability between that pair and one that costs $15, especially if a famous athlete endorses the shoe. The influence of television, radio and other media has refuted Smith's presumption of frugality.

His contention that comptetition would regulate markets hasn't fared very well either. The price of gas rarely differs from one establishment to another. With the exception of Wal-Mart, few companies even purport to compete. Many operate under the assumption that upscale products sell better - that image rather than budget drives consumer behavior. So companies grow, universities expand, franchises proliferate until one has what amounts to a series of deliterious industries, grown so large and influential over the economy that government cannot allow them to fail. That's neither Smithonian nor Keynesian. And as we've all seen it can be dangerous.

Meanwhile rhe liberal approach offers one incredibly flawed and dangerous premise - the govenment should, for the sake and safety of the people, control more ot the wealth, including spending it in targeted areas to prop up the poor. It is a humanistic idea but its downside can be captured in three words - declining human motivation. Even a freshman psychology student knows that when the reinforcer is taken away the behavior tends to extinguish. Taking away reinforcers from the producers of jobs and goods will inhibit production. hiring, expansion and ultimately end up hurting th every people government purports to help.

For those reasons it could be argued that neither system works, certainly not over an extender period of time. The question is what to do about it. If all we have are two options the flaws of both will recur every decade or so. Unless people come to anticipate this and "store nuts" in the interim - a practice now discouraged, because spending stimulates the economy whereas saving money detracts from it - the same old problems will crop up..

It is difficult to get off a roller coaster while it's moving but not impossible. It simply takes some innovative thinking. The innovation here is based on a new approach called parallelism.

The current socio-economic menu features socialism, capitalism smd communism. One could argue that these are forms of goverment rather than economic systems but in fact the main principle inherent in any political theory is the alotment and regulation of property. Parallelism is offered here a new item on the menu. It differs from the other formats in the following way. Capitalism entails a clear separation between government and business. Othe than the Fed, anti- trust laws and some internal requirements for corporations such as limits of practice. independent board members and stockholder rights and privileges, corporations are free to operate on their own. Socialism involves government regulation - based on the idea that since the market affects people and nations it cannot be allowed to operate freely. The former costs government less - theoretically maximizing its revenues via less involvement and spending in business affairs and ultimately more tax revenues from growing companies. The problem is that its relatively laissez fair approach leads to monopolistic practices, higher prices, inlflation and excesssive and potentially destructive consumer behavior.

Socialism involves spending a lot of money on various public projects and social support programs but diminishes entrepreneurial motivation so that ultimately revenues decline and the ranks of the "needy and helpless" increase.

In contrast, parallelism involves the government actually going into business to compete with companies - primarily as a means of maintaining Smithonian consumer frugality, but also to offer a system of costs, product availability that is always in line with the cost of living. In addition, its advertising standards would be concrete and definitive - in each case, and for each product, the list would include the exact materials used, the cost of production and the profit margin - all for the consumer's perusal.

Now, as in geometry, parallel lines do not by definition intersect. That means the government companies would not influence or regulate private businesses. There would be no capital gains tax, low corporate taxes per se and in general a hands-of style. he government would not over- regulate and it would not ignore - it would compete.

The government company would have a flexible hiring format for the unemployed and/ or indigent so that welfare support and unemployment benefits would be less necessary and costly than now. Worklng out of the home would be one option.

Parallelism offers another perk - the government would be making money rather than merely spending it by virtue of its various enterprises. It would not offer the same wages as a corporation, nor should it, because the point is not to outcompete private companies. It would adhere to a cost of living standard in its prices, its wages and its benefits so that no one who works there, whether by choice or necessity should expect to become well off. It would be a productive and regulatory means of survival for people in financial difficulty.

The obvious question becomes, what if private companies can't compete and go belly up in droves? There are two answers to that question, both consistent with conservative economic theory. The first is that private companies would have to either contain costs and/or develop better products than the government company. That would keep them smaller so that A. their failure would not jeopardize the economy per se and B. as a result of being small more companies would crop up to compete, which would lead to more jobs in more locations around the country, with fewer pocket recessions resulting, as seen in recent times in the middle American states.

Other safeguards could be put in play. For example very flexible standards for declaring bankruptcy, grant monies for companies on the rebound could provided by government company assets and other sources. This could make for a more flexible fail-and-rebound process, as well as rescuing the unemployed, lowering the cost of health case, fuels, and other goods while freeing up well run companies to (in paraphrase of Jefferson's theory of the natural aristocracy) succeed in proportion to their talents and motivations).

Do You See Failure or Success?

Author:Heather Dominick
I remember attending a meditation workshop with Mark Epstein, a well-known 'Buddhist psychologist.' He told a story about a meeting he had with Ram Dass, spiritual teacher and author, where Ram Dass had asked Mark Epstein about his work with his patients. As Mark talked about his work, Ram Dass interrupted him and asked, "Do you see them as already healed?"

I was so struck by this story. As a coach and healer of businesses, I saw the clarity in this question. So often as solo-service professionals it is easy to focus on our success by looking at ourselves (what we are doing, creating, visualizing, etc.), but the results are incredible when we turn the focus on those that we serve.

What do you see when you look at your clients or customers? Do you see failure or success?

When I worked as a high school teacher--in moments when my students were working on their own--I would say to myself, "The light in me sees the light in you." I really felt that. I could see my students succeeding long before they could see it or could even venture to believe it. However, I knew as their teacher it was my duty to hold that vision and energy for them and then guide them through the action steps of getting there. It always worked. I have countless high school teaching success stories.

I see that same (if not more--I've learned a lot in the past few years) success for the private and Boot Camp clients I work with now. I literally see them as a successful magazine owner, professional organizer, coach, meditation expert, Feng Shui practitioner...and the list goes on. It continues to work.

I ask you to begin to apply this to your own business. Here are 3 steps to begin SEEING success in those that you serve.

1)Change the way you look at things and the things you look at change.

In Dr. Wayne Dyer's book, The Power of Intention, he sites that, "It turns out that at the tiniest subatomic level, the actual act of observing a particle changes the particle." This is a clear example of energy affecting energy. If I look at you and see your success, then you begin to create more of and be success! How great is that?

So when speaking to a prospect, customer, or client, instead of questioning your abilities (wondering if you'll get the sale or joining them in their woes), the most powerful action you can take is to change the way you are looking at the situation. See them as happy, joyful, peaceful, well, successful...and more. You will be effecting a change that will result in more success and abundance for the both of you. (It feels so much better than worry and doubt!)

2)Be constantly giving.

The energy of success is constantly giving and the supply is limitless. When you can come from this place in your own business, you begin to attract more into your life.

I know when I first heard this, it was hard for me to grasp. Mostly, because I used to come from a place of giving, but have one eye immediately on making sure that I was compensated and at the same time convinced that I wouldn't be. Guess what? I wasn't and I felt a whole lot of resentment at the same time.

When I shifted my attention to giving for the sake of the success of those that I was serving and simultaneously confidently took care of what I needed for myself and my business (instead of waiting for someone else to do just do it), there was more success ALL around.

3)Detach from the outcome.

When you are able to SEE success, you don't need to be attached to the outcome because you KNOW that it's going to be successful. Whenever you are caught up in accumulating (I have to get this client; I have to sell to this customer), then you lose sight of what your main goal is--to see the success of those that you serve.

Find out exactly what's going on for the person that you're speaking to. Ask them and ask yourself, what do they need? The answer to this question is usually multi-layered. (For example, prospects that come to me may need more income from their businesses, but they also need to move through the blocks they've unconsciously set up for themselves that's keeping them from getting more money). So, you then SEE them as getting their needs fully met and begin the process of working with that person, so you can help make it happen.

Call To Action:

1) Ask yourself, how do I see my prospects, clients, or customers? Be honest. Just let the answer come. No judgment. It will give you a lot of information.

2) With whatever answer you get now, ask yourself, "How can I improve?" How can I see this situation differently?

3) For one day focus only on those you serve and their success. Write down the difference in how you feel, the results that your clients get, and anything else that pops up.

What to Do During an Earthquake

Author: Sharon Bell

In most major earthquakes, the worst is over after the first minute. So don't panic. Maintain presence of mind and be calm.

When inside a building, seek cover under furniture you think is strong enough to protect you from falling debris. Don't run out of the building and into the street. You may fall down the stairs or start a stampede.

When caught by a tremor in the street or between buildings, take refuge under strong structures. Beware of falling electric wires, debris, street signs, overhanging slabs or crumbling walls. Running in the middle of a busy street is not always a good idea since you may be hit by a moving vehicle.

When at sea, earthquakes cannot be distinguished at once from waves, especially when the sea is rough. But this may be felt by the more experienced sea traveler. Since an earthquake can cause a tidal wave under certain conditions, prepare for the emergency at once and report the ship's position to the proper authorities.

If you are in a coastal area, observe the sea. If there are any unnatural changes, transfer to higher ground. You may hit by a tidal wave.

In mountainous regions, the immediate dangers are land¬ slides, sudden change of water flow, slumping and mud flows. Stay away from steep slopes, ravines, waterfalls or deep streams.

In the Great Kanto earthquake of 1923 in Japan, many people were killed and about a million became homeless due largely to fires. Immediately after a strong tremor, be on the lookout for fires. Extinguish fire before at¬tempting to save lives. Shut off main power switches. Live wires hanging or strewn on the ground are dangerous.

Major earthquakes are usually followed by aftershocks, some of which may be moderately strong. These are not as dangerous as the main shocks but they may affect structures already weakened by the strong shock.

Stay away from unstable objects or structures, damaged walls and ceilings, and fallen lives wires.

Bring children and old people to safe areas like open grounds, parks, or undamaged houses or buildings.

At home, check for damaged or weakened structures, loose wirings and repair them immediately.

If there is a call for help, coordinate with organized working groups.

Tips for a Good Night's

Lack of sleep has gone on to become one of the most troubling problems for many women. Most women do not get the required amount of sleep which affects their productivity throughout the day. Health professionals recommend that adults need at least seven hours of sleep each night. For children, at least 9 hours of sleep and sometimes more depending on their age, is recommended. If you are one of those who is troubled by a sleepless night or want to help a family member or a relative, read our tips for a good night's sleep:

Avoid Caffeinated Beverages and Alcohol

Keep caffeinated beverages like coffee, tea and soda to a minimum during the daytime and avoid them completely in the evening if you really want a good night's sleep. Such drinks keep you awake hours after your last sip of them. Also make it a point to stay away from alcohol. You may think that Alcohol helps sleep since it makes people drowsy, but in reality, it affects the quality of sleep. You will fall asleep after consuming alcohol but will still feel fatigued and groggy in the morning.

Creating a Bed Time Ritual

Bed time rituals are not just for kids. Bed time rituals condition your mind as well as your body to go to sleep. They are even beneficial for people who do not have a problem of sleeplessness and fall asleep instantly because it is also not considered healthy to stay awake till the point of exhaustion. Bed time rituals are a series of behaviors that get your body relaxed and ready for bed, and ensure that you have a long and comfortable night's sleep.

You can combat your sleeping problems by following a bed time ritual that complements your lifestyle. Having a fixed bed time each night will help set your body’s internal clock. About an hour before your bed time, create a routine that fits your lifestyle and winds your body down for bed. It can be either reading a book each night, listening to soft music or taking a comfortable bath or shower. Whatever you choose, take care that it does not require too much of physical activity.

Create a Comfortable Sleeping Environment

If you are into a habit of falling asleep anywhere i.e. not on your own proper bed, it affects good sleep to a great extent. Don't fall asleep on sofas or couches while watching TV and never leave the TV on for an entire night in your bedroom. Make sure your bed is a comfortable one and invest in a good mattress that holds your posture correctly while sleeping. Away from harsh lights and sounds, in the comfort of a properly made bed, you will sleep much peacefully than you ever did.

Stop Worrying

Women tend to worry a lot which affects their sleep. Your lack of sleep might result from the fact that you do not stop worrying about personal and household affairs even in bed. While it is impossible to stop worrying altogether, try to get into a habit of 'letting things be' till the next morning and relax yourself before you go to sleep. try not to think about issues that you know will disturb you for many hours. Tell yourself firmly that you spend the entire day taking care of all your problems and that your sleeping time is yours alone. Meditating before going to sleep also takes your mind off things that are troubling you.

Starting Your Day off the RIGHT Way

The morning is the most important time of the day. Why? - Because it can easily set the mood for the rest of your day! - This is due to many reasons. One of the most significant is that it is much easier (scientifically, almost 25 times easier) to develop short term paradigms (viewpoints) upon first waking up. When you first awaken, your mind is slowly leaving the delta state, (low brain wave frequency) where it is most easily influenced by mental suggestion. In other words, your mind is most open – and what you put in it will stay in it, until at least the end of the day. It is for this reason that often, if you are awakened by a sound or a song, you may be able to easily recall it again and again throughout the day (even if it’s a song you cannot stand!).

That being said, it is absolutely critical that you start your day off on the “right side of the bed.” Any negative thoughts you have will shape your subconscious for the entire day. Realize, if you wake up and say “Sh*t… today’s gonna suck…”, then it will suck! - Your subconscious would be imbued with a belief that “today sucks” and would work with your mental filtering systems and all of your senses to perceive information accordingly. There’s a lot to it, but the point of this article is to give you a list of tips to start your day off the right way… so back on track.

We know you’re busy as #%$! In the morning and don’t have time for therapeutic, two hour spa sessions when you’re trying to get to work or class on time. Therefore, this list is as “grounded” as is possible, and you can start using it – Now.

Also, for the record, we DO use every single one of these ourselves.

1. Initial Wakeup

GET UP! FAST! When you wake up, get out of bed as fast as you can! (without sending yourself into cardiac arrest, of course.) Waste no time in getting up. The best cure for procrastination is action – so if you’re procrastinating about getting out of bed, just force yourself to get up! …and wallah! - Problem solved! Jumping out of bed will spike your metabolism, and will end all thoughts of “just lying there” a little bit more. As an added bonus, I put my alarm clock on the other side of the room – forcing me to jump out of bed and go turn it off… and once I’m out, I stay out!

2. Light

The power of light is severely underestimated by most people. How? It has profound effects upon body chemistry and energy levels. You circadian rhythm (based on light levels) affects nearly all aspects of your physiology. Over 200 processes are controlled by the level of and type of light that you receive, including heart rate, digestion, appetite and thirst, fluid balance, stress level, emotions, immunity, hunger, energy, blood pressure, body temperature, physical strength, reaction times, sexual appetite, urine production and brain balance – just to name a few. Bright, natural light is ideal for bringing the most energy to all these systems. The more light you receive, the more serotonin your pineal gland produces – a “feel good” neurotransmitter. The less light received, the more melatonin your pineal gland produces. Melatonin is essentially a depressant / sedative. This explains why humans living in Spain are some of the most upbeat, positive beings on the planet, where as residents in Norway or Russia are some of the most depressed. Your body makes melatonin at night, and makes serotonin during the day. So, the sooner you turn on the lights, or open the blinds preferably, the sooner your body’s systems will increase their energy levels. The longer you keep it dark, the harder it will be to wake up – that simple.

3. Wake Up to a Clean Room

This one may not seem that significant, but believe me – it is. Waking up to a clean, organized room has a positive first impression upon your mind. Waking up to clutter, dirty clothes, and piles of beer cans from the night before does not. This may seem like a bit of a feng shui thing, but give it a try, and you will realize – it does work. It’s easier to vacate a room when it’s clean, pristine, and relatively organized / empty, versus one that is piled high and more “cozy.” Keep your room stark… put things away from you’re done using them. It will help.

4. Fresh Air

Open the window. No matter what season it is. Open the window… even if it is just a crack. Your bedroom has sat stagnant all night, void of fresh air, especially if you leave your door closed as I do. When you open the window (and the door preferably) you create a cross draft to bring in fresh air. You have lowered the oxygen level by rebreathing the same air in the room at night. However, as soon as you open the window, you bring in fresh air with high oxygen levels – instantly raising your energy level. Even if it is 10 degrees out, open the window just a tad. When it’s cold out, it will have even more of an effect – the cool, denser air will carry more oxygen, and the temperature alone will help you to awaken.

5. Music

Music is a huge part of my morning. Even if you are not musically motivated, music can shape your mornings. Turn on music as soon as you can after waking up. Make sure it is something positive and uplifting – as chances are it may become stuck in your head for the rest of the day. Personally, I love pounding trance in the morning – it’s positive, uplifting chords and driving bass last with me all day. Make sure you’re listening to something that pulls you up… not down. The effect of music upon the brain is something we will discuss down the road – stay tuned. Also, if music is not available, any high frequency sound chords can work. Birds chirping, wind chimes, ect – all help awaken and sooth the mind.

6. Food

Start your morning off with a full glass of water before you eat anything else – This is essential. Toxins have been ejected from tissue and line your throat and mouth (thus, morning-breath) and the last thing you want to do is to allow them to adhere to your breakfast. Drink a full glass of water –and give it ten minutes. If you have an empty stomach, the toxins will be flushed down, and pass out with your urine, with no food to absorb them. Ten minutes later, you may eat your breakfast. The subject of a healthy breakfast is obviously a lengthy subject, but I’ll be brief – DO NOT SKIP BREAKFAST. They’re not lying when they say it’s the most important meal of the day. Your body has been starved for eight hours or more, and breakfast is crucial. Breakfast jumpstarts your metabolism, ends your body’s “hoarding mode” from the night, and will actually help you lose weight and stay lean if you chose the proper foods. Make sure you eat some fruit, some protein, and some carbs. My typical weekend breakfast consists of an orange and three scrambled eggs… very basic, but quite healthy. If you’re eating loads of sugary cereal, or worse, doughnuts for breakfast, you need to go do some basic research online on how to eat healthy. You could be lean and good looking, but lack energy, and your arteries may be 90% blocked – as a result of your diet.

7. Cold shower

Take a cold shower. Yes, freezing cold is unbearable. You don’t have to do it that way. Start it off hot… like me. Then, after you’re medium-toasty (not well-toasty... it will make you more tired), put it on cold for as long as you can take it. Then, put it on hot for a minute… then cold for a minute. Repeat the hot-cold cycle a few times – this will not only wake you up fast, but it will expand and contract your pores to force out toxins and oils from the night. End the shower with a cold rinse – you want to be cold when you step out… it’s critical, as it will raise your metabolism, and keep it there. Try the cold shower thing for a week – you’ll notice a difference. A long, hot shower depresses your physiological systems and makes you want to go back to bed. A cold, invigorating shower will wake you up – fast. Try it.

8. Make Your Bed

This doesn’t serve as much of a purpose for in the morning, as it does for in the evening. I’ll explain how it works from my situation. I wake up. I do my morning routine. I (in this example) do not make my bed. I leave. I work all day, and at the end of the day, I think of all the projects that I am going to work on when I get home. However, when I get home into my room, I suddenly feel tired… there’s something drawing me to my bed. The covers are thrown back – like a great, yawning mouth of gaping comfort… calling for me to dive in after a long day at work. So I do – I jump in, cover up, get all toasty, and sleep away half of my evening – only to go to bed again a few hours later. Leaving your bed unmade kills your motivation. Not only does it appear messy, which drains your energy in its own right, but it also invites you back in repeatedly, when you usually cannot afford to. So, make your bed. You’ll notice you get more things done in the evening.

9. Time Savers

There are several small, simple things you can do to save time in the morning. For one, if you check your computer in the morning (MySpace, Facebook, email, stocks, weather, ect), then try this. Rather than shutting down your computer at night, put it in standby. You will save a few minutes over turning it on, and it won’t use any more electricity. If it takes your computer four minutes to boot up, multiplied over a year, that is over 24 hours! An entire day you would save if you followed the routine everyday. Another rather obvious tip is to put all your “to-go” items in one spot. Put your phone, wallet (or purse), watch, rings, notepad, ID badge, car keys, ect; all on the same part of the counter, or in a bowl perhaps. It will save you time searching for everything. Additionally, whatever time you are waking up now, wake up ten minutes earlier. It makes a world of difference in the morning. If you can get over the “I could sleep for ten more minutes” thinking, you will reap amazing benefits. Ten minutes can take a lot of the edge off of your morning, allowing you to take your time as you go about your routine. It can save you money as well. I can tell you in my case that if I leave a few minutes early, rather than driving 80 MPH to make it to work on time, I can drive 65-70 MPH, which, due to exponential drag and air resistance, is optimum gas mileage speed for my car, and saves me a few bucks each week in gas.

10. Self-Talk

Self-Talk should be the most important part of any morning routine. In the morning, you need to load yourself with as much positive mental programming as possible. Your mind is most receptive to it in the morning (and at night), and it will shape the rest of your day. Your programming comes in many different forms, and it is our job to help you use it to your advantage. Mental programming is too much for this article… keep your eyes on us as we come out with new products to help you shape your mind exactly the way you want it – and help you live the life you deserve.

It's no big secret that we all need money to survive in this crazy world. While some of us are born with it, the majority of us have to seek out business ventures and make our own capital. On the bright side, this is easier now than it's ever been before. We currently reside in a world of endless possibilities. Much of this is related to the World-Wide-Web. Computers and cyberspace have opened so many doors. It's certainly reasonable to assume you can make a hefty income online. Countless others, not so different from yourself, do it everyday. Our modern world is loaded with money making ideas and wonderful ways to pursue them. Are you ready to work from home?

We're flooded with infinite infomercials now days. Many of them talk about at-home money making ideas. While I think this is great, you may not be clear on what it is they're pitching. Well, you don't really have to choose a particular path. There are countless ways to earn a decent living via the web. Have you ever considered opening up your own business. I can't even begin to imagine how many others have done this online by now. But we all see the abundance of web-stores. You could have one of your own if you wanted. There's always room for more. That's what's so wonderful about cyberspace. There's always more space. And imagine the potential customers. Six billion people inhabit this planet. How many of them do you think surf the web regularly? My guess is a freaking lot. You see, the cool thing about having your business in cyberspace is the rental fees. They're nothing compared to having a business in the local shopping mall or downtown. Just ask yourself what kind of business would suit you. What do you feel passionate about?

It doesn't stop with online companies/businesses. There are other great money making ideas to ponder. Ever heard of Google Adsense or Yahoo Publisher? Google and Yahoo are two of the largest search engines right now. And they pay ad revenue to those who place their ads on websites. So if you were to build web pages and place Google ads on them, every time you get traffic and someone clicks on a Google ad, Google pays you. Therefore you might want to consider building websites in your spare time. As I said before, there are countless money making ideas with the web at our fingertips.

If you have a little familiarity with the net, you're halfway there. A website can be the answer to leveraging a modest investment into multiple streams of income.

Think about what you know. If you're working as a secretary, you can set up a website offering your services as a “virtual assistant”. A virtual assistant provides secretarial services on a telecommute basis to clients around the world. Additionally, you can place advertising banners linking to other sites with services related to, but outside your capacity. Advertising banners pay commissions for each sale that results from a “click-through” from your site. You can set up links to Amazon or other book sites, advertising books relevant to your customer's needs, which also pay handsome commissions for each sale. Without too much trouble, you can write a monthly newsletter, including links to sites your customers will find rewarding and for which you'll gain another source of multiple streams of income.

No matter what your “day job” is, you can generate multiple streams of income to enhance and build off your paycheck job. Advertising is key in your search for added income. Are you a mechanic? Why not set up your website, filled with information on cars, with advertising links to resources, books, car parts, junkyards and car shows? Garner your commissions for sales on click-throughs, creating multiple streams of income to add to your weekly paycheck.

Writers are notoriously underpaid. The self-employed writer has many “dry” periods where no income whatsoever is forthcoming. Set up your own website, packed with information and articles – you're a writer, right? Write your own newsletter, including links to resources and products your audience will find helpful and gain commissions and advertising income to boot!

The net is a boon to every profession. You have something to offer to the world at large. You just have to let them know! When you do, you'll realize the benefits of multiple streams of income.

You can find your first advisors and business partners in the new growing community. Just ask your questions, share your thoughts and thousands of people will answer. Visit http://www.CallOfMoney.com and start!

Fictional Blogging

Let's start with something that you probably like, Blogging.

Author: Joseph Gambit

Fictional blogging is the practice of keeping a blog, under the guise of a fictional character. This character can be a person from the real world such as a celebrity or a politician, or can be something made up from a book or a movie. Many people also blog under the guise of original characters created by them.

The practice of fictional blogging is one which grew out of the blogging community itself. A blog is basically a daily journal of a persons life, chronicling their thoughts, feelings, and emotions throughout the day. The creative leap to start keeping a journal through the lens of a characters eye is one which was natural.

Some famous fictional blogs include the one kept by a person claiming to be Darth Vader, as well as the one kept by the Fake Steve Jobs. These fictional blogs gained notoriety because the writers were able to make wry observations, which ended up reflecting humorously on the people they were portraying. In the case of Darth Vader, the author often writes as if Vader is simply a manager at a medium sized company, trying to get along with his employees and deal with office politics. In the case of the fake Steve Jobs the author was able to poke fun at the philosophical and artistic choices that guide the apple mentality.

Many people claim that fictional blogging is therapeutic. Blogs are completely public, and if you are keeping one about your own life, then you will have people judging you based on what you say. This can be done not only by random strangers, but also by people googling you, such as potential employers, and new acquaintances. With a fictional blog you can still express your honest opinions, but the credit or grief for these opinions will fall on the shoulders of the fake character that was made up.

In general the writing style of a fictional blog is the same as that of a real one. The blogger records everyday events, in a relaxed and conversational tone. Posts are generally short, even when the blogger is trying to tell a full story through the medium. One of the unique features of fictional blogs is the comments section, which allows readers to get involved with the actual text that is being created.

In recent times communities of fictional bloggers have started to spring up, as a way furthering the interactive elements of a fictional blog. In these communities a variety of characters all keep blogs, and interact with others blogs, influencing how individual stories are created and developed.
